We wanted to know whether the size of opening on a container affected the rate of evaporation of 25 mLitres of water ...
We changed the size of each beaker, but kept the temperature, location and starting amount of water the same.
We checked the water levels at the beginning and end of every day and recorded the results in our science books.
We found out that the size of opening did affect the rate of evaporation, so that the greater the area open to the air, the quicker the speed of water evaporation. Here are our conclusions:
We found out that the water in the larger and wider beakers evaporated first and the last to evaporate was the beaker with the smallest diameter. We think this was because there was a larger surface area for the molecules to escape the liquid in the bigger beakers and so it happened more quickly.
